Colocasia 'Mickey Mouse'
While commonly called alocasia, this rare plant is in the genus Xanthosoma which is the elephant ear or colocasia genus. Colocasia is the genus of plants that we get taro root from, but don’t taste this one, as the edible ones are Colocasia esculenta. All parts of this plant and taro are poisonous when raw. Even when cooked, I would imagine you’d find this unpalatable and I do not endorse finding out for yourself.
This Mickey Mouse Colocasia likes part to full sun and consistently moist loamy soil. It gets the name ‘Mickey Mouse’ due to its large lobed leaves resembling the shape of my favorite mouse and yours… Don’t tell Mortimer, Gus Gus or Stuart.
